Hello, hello. This is not a short story.
I started this newsletter a few years ago, and it was fun, but it’s over now. I’ll still be making art here and there. If you’re reading this as an email, then my plan is to move you to a mailing list. You’ll probably get an email once or twice a year when I have something to share. E.g., did you know I had a piece in the New York Times? Or that, a long time ago, I made music? Hopefully I’ll make music again. I’ll definitely keep writing in some form or other.
But! Maybe you don’t want updates. Maybe you don’t know what this Substack is or you joined via a too-easy-to-click recommendation or you just want out. Here’s how to unsubscribe.
I won’t get notified if you unsubscribe, so don’t worry about offending me. And take your time; there won’t be mailing list activity anytime soon.

It was the numbering scheme that bothered me. I could handle the veil of mystery being drawn back. I could handle seeing Death — Esophageal cancer — 7,812. But why page numbers? Why not dates?
